Statement on the One-Year Anniversary of George Floyd's Murder

Today, May 25, 2021, marks exactly one year since George Floyd was murdered by a Minneapolis police officer. George Floyd should be alive today. We invite you to take a moment of your time to reflect and engage in remembrance of Floyd and countless other victims of racial violence in this country. You can learn more about activities occurring nationally through The George Floyd Memorial Foundation here: https://www.georgefloydmemorialfoundation.org/remembrance

At the University of Virginia, we remain committed to advancing racial equity at our institution. While we have achieved some of our initial goals, we know that our work is not done. Together, we will continue striving for the meaningful, long-term change that we seek.
